About our College
On 15th of August, when British India saw the dawn of freedom, Saurashtra was still slumbering. Jamnagar was one of the 202 native states of the region ruled over by native princes. We here, were backward was lack of proper educational facilities. Although Jamnagar was one of the front line state, it had 3 high schools only. The number of primary schools also was very small. It was quite natural that the first task the popular rulers of newly formed state of Saurashtra and the leading citizens placed before themselves was the spread of education..
The late Kantilal P. Shah, an enlightened citizen of Jamnagar- He later on became an M.L.A., Chairman of the State Transport Corporation and State Finance Corporation. He got together like-minded people like late Fulchand Tamboli, Harjivandas Bardanwala, Keshubhai Valia, all prominent citizens, and Smt Manjulaben Dave, Leading social worker of Jamnagar , and others and them formed a society and got it registered as Shri Vidyottejak Mandal in 1953, with the aim of establishing education institutions, catering to the needs of different age groupst.
Our students would be equipped with the skills and competencies necessary for success in life. They would be independent thinkers, problem solvers, decision makers and active participants in society. At the same time they would exhibit tolerance, concern for the environment, demonstrate responsibility and integrity.
Law classes were attached to the M.P.Shah commerce College since 1963. Under the requirements of the Bar Council, a seprate Law College ecame a necessity. With the help of a magnamious donation from late Shri K.P.Shah. Then Honorary Secretary of the Mandal. K.P.Shah's name given to Law College building in 1988. From 1995 commenced courses leading to Diploma taxation and Diploma in Labour Law was started.
About 5000 students have studied in this college and entered the profession of advocacy. The number of students has been steadily increasing and at present there are about 600 students studying in this college. Shri K.P. Shah Law College enjoys a prestigious position amongst all law colleges affiliated to Saurashtra University.
